Back home again,
but this time far too much rain, so we moved under the porch of Door
Nine where we have been ever since. The year before, though it was exciting
to be part of preparations for the Last Night, we didn't really want
people to have to risk the anticlimax in the evening after our stunning
performances in the afternoon. In any case, it can be very uncomfortable
sleeping out with a 'cello. We moved to the previous Sunday and set
the pattern for the more serious approach which we have followed ever
since. We made history yet again, this time by becoming the first orchestra
(as far as we know) to rehearse inside the Albert Hall in order to perform
outside it. We also moved to the last Sunday, instead of the last afternoon.
